What is patent & IP translation?

MyIPO (Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia) is the government agency responsible for patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications in Malaysia.

English is the official language for PCT national phase entry in Malaysia — no other language is prescribed. If your international patent application was filed in another language, a certified English translation of the specification and claims is required to enter the Malaysian national phase.

Important: Patent translation demands more than linguistic accuracy — claims must preserve exact legal and technical scope. An imprecise translation can narrow, broaden, or weaken patent protection.

When do you need this translation?

A certified translation is required in the following situations when filing with MyIPO.

01

PCT National Phase Entry

Applications with an international filing date must enter the Malaysian national phase within 30 months of the priority date, with the specification, claims, and abstract translated into English.
